Top 5 Benefits of LED's Over Conventional Lighting

Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs) offer many benefits over traditional lighting by improving on the positives of its predecessors while doing away with its inefficiencies.

It is for this reason that it has become one of today’s most energy efficient and rapidly developing lighting technologies. We take a look at the advantages that LED linear luminaires offer over conventional lights.

1. Energy Efficiency

LED luminaires use significantly less energy than conventional lights, with savings of up to 85% less than halogen bulbs. Despite this, they still emit the same amount of light.

2. Long Lifespan

LEDs run at a much cooler temperature than conventional lights. While other lighting lifespans are shortened through both proper and improper usage, the LED’s low heat levels, durability and energy efficiency make it possible for it to outlast other types of bulbs by thousands of hours. In addition, LEDs have a very low failure rate of <1% compared to other light fittings and, where halogens stop emitting light in its failed state, LEDs do not fail instantly, still producing light but at a reduced lumen output.

3. Low Maintenance

The long lifespan of LEDs means that, unlike conventional light fittings, there is no need for re-lamping or ongoing light changes over the course of its lifetime. This makes it suitable for restricted access or off site environments where regular maintenance would be impractical and costly.

4. Performance

The consistent light output of LEDs remains constant over time, with a loss of only 1-2% of its initial lumen. Halogen lights can lose up to 5% over the life of the bulb and fluorescents double this at a range of up to 10%.

5. Suitable for Harsh Environments

LED fittings are able to operate in a range of hot and cold temperatures with minimal deterioration. In environments where temperatures regularly exceed 40°C, conventional lights such as CFL see a significant drop in lumen output while LEDs remain largely unaffected.

LED linear luminaires provide a solution to many of the problems that exist with conventional light fittings. In addition to having a much longer lifespan, as well as improved performance in both level and quality of light output, the decision to upgrade an installation from conventional lighting to LED should be easier than ever before.
