Bernstein electromechanical limit switches are designed in accordance with EN 60947-5-1 and feature mechanical positive opening action for safety functions.

It starts before the order
Three questions we ask alongside the part number, so the switch and actuator suit the movement they have to detect.
Where does it run?
Indoor or outdoor, washdown and dust, temperature, mechanical load, and whether a plastic or metal enclosure suits the duty.
What is it doing?
Position or a safety function, how the target approaches the actuator, 2 or 4 contacts, and whether it needs a latch and manual reset.
What if it is wrong?
A missed end position and an overtravel, a safety contact that does not open under fault, an actuator worn out, a switch replaced every month.
What is positive opening in a safety limit switch?
A safety limit switch used for personal protection must provide mechanical positive opening action in accordance with EN 60947-5-1.
Positive opening ensures that normally closed contacts are separated by a defined mechanical movement of the actuator, not by spring force alone.
Switches used in safety functions must also withstand a minimum surge voltage of 2.5 kV without disruptive breakdown.
