Pacific Automation Supplies and Installs Heat Trace Cable for Puma Energy’s Bitumen Plant in Kwinana

Tuesday, 28 May 2019
Puma Energy engaged Pacific Automation to manage the supply, configuration and installation of Thermon heat trace cable and temperature control equipment for its bitumen plant in Kwinana.

Heat tract products are designed to provide consistent and reliable heat outputs regardless of circuit length.
Pacific Automation:

  • Managed the installation, ensuring it met high quality standards
  • Undertook the design and planning, including calculating cable runs to minimise cable cuts, termination points and cut-off wastage for the 4,900 metres of cable installed
  • Managed on-site safety to ensure all people were working safely according to Australian standards, including working at height
  • Managed the installation contractor’s labour hours to stay within budget
Despite some challenging weather conditions and the accessibility of the wharf area, the project was delivered on time and within budget, to a high standard.

Pacific Automation Field Service Engineer Johan Blignaut has also been providing ongoing technical advice and support about the Thermon heat trace products.

Johan said, “Despite the challenges and some in-house design changes, such as modifying the wiring drawings, we provided our customer with the best solution for data acquisition and circuit control, and delivered the project on time, within budget, safely.”
